Result: Kimpton: 106 for 6 from 20 overs; Fishers, 107 for 5 from 15. overs.
This fixture against fellow Uni of Herts net users Kimptom proved a great game and hopefully the first of many matches against this side.
Fishers fielded first and despite some excellent tight bowling from Bungle, Matt and Andrew, were unable to break up Kimpton’s opening pair. Just after the no.2 retired on 25, the ever-reliable Sandsy worked his magic, tempting the no.1 down the track for a swing and a miss, and Martin did the rest, stumping him for 25.
The game was halted temporarily when Matt Hounslow took a blow to the face when a caught and bowled attempt went wrong, but Fishers battled on with some consistent overs from Reevo.
The wickets then began to fall in quick succession – first the no.4 was run out by Reevo after a mix-up, then Malc bowled the no.5 with a devilish delivery that has become his trademark. Boxer then got in on the act, taking two wickets with his first two balls, both bowled. Realising it was approaching the end of the month and his bank account wasn’t looking too healthy, Boxer employed the jug avoidance tactic to ensure what would have been an expensive hatrick never materialised.
The final wicket fell when Andrew took a catch off Jacobs’ bowling.
Fishers innings got off to a bad start when Bungle was bowled for 1 despite playing a textbook forward defensive. No, not really, he heaved across the line to a straight one. Magnet then departed after making a quickfire (for him) 12, including one delightful late cut for four. Cox continued his fine form with the bat by racing to 16 before being caught hooking a ball that rose sharply on him, before Reevo was run out thanks to a rush of blood to the head by Boxer.
Boxer made up for his indisgression by plundering his first 25 of the season to put Fishers in the driving seat. Sandsy then made a cracking 20 not out, and although Jacobs was trapped LBW for 6, Malc and Sandsy saw us home with almost 5 overs to spare, the winning runs coming off Big Malc’s bat courtesy of a no-messing 4.
Man of the match: Good performances with the ball from Bungle, Matt, Boxer and Malc and a good knock (about bloody time) from Boxer, but the award goes to Sandsy for his all-round (no, not his belly) display, taking a wicket and seeing us home during the run-chase with an imperious 20 not out.
