SJFCC vs Abbey Dads

SJFCC vs Abbey Dads
2004-05-20. Win By Dave Boxer

Well done on yesterday’s result: Abbey Dads 112 for 5 from 20 overs, The Mighty Fishers 113 for 6 from 19 overs.

Game started late as most of the Abbey Dads didn’t turn up until 6.30pm (perhaps we should start telling opposition teams that the matches start at 5.45pm to have a better chance of actually starting at 6pm?), so we were forced to field first, which I wouldn’t have chosen to do had I won the toss (unlikely in itself).

Bowling display solid if not spectacular: Tight spells from Bob, Jim-Bob and Patrick Fogarty, and tonkage off Nick and Ant (but Nick’s were all off the edge, or so he claims). Best bowling from Ethan Fogarty, a St. Albans colt who kindly filled in at the last minute and fielded extremely well as well.

Batting wise, Mao’s 26 – 20 of which were 4s – in just 3 or 4 overs was the highlight. Pat also made 26 but took a little longer to reach it. After a very good start, the run-rate dropped off as the light faded and it looked for a period as though we weren’t going to reach the target that looked so gettable after the first 5 overs. After losing Nick and Ant cheaply (dodgy LBW decision by Mao on the latter) Patrick Fogarty came in and rescued the situation, hitting a quickfire 22 not out, including a beast of a six. Phil backed up the other end (so to speak) superbly, employing an effective ‘I can’t see a bloody thing so I’ll play French cricket’ stylie to great effect. In the end, we won with an over to spare.

Man of the Match: Joint between Ethan and Andy H.

Cheers
