2005-05-12. Win by 5 wickets By Dave Boxer
Result: Garden Fields: 122 for 7 from 20 overs; The Mighty Fishers: 123 for 5 from 19.4 overs.
Another extremely tight but well-deserved victory for The Mighty Fishers, and when I say tight, I mean duck’s arse tight. We began as we meant to go on, with Dave losing the toss, and we were put into field. Bob opened the bowling with a couple of solid overs, but it was Andy R from the other end (oo er missus) that made the breakthrough, with 3 outstanding overs, ending with figures of 3 overs, 1 maiden, 2 wickets for 2 runs. His first wicket was a full toss that cried ‘spank me’ (I heard it) as it sailed through the air, but Andy’s well-timed shout of ‘Sorry bat’ did enough to put him off and he missed it, allowing it to bowl him middle stump. Reevo then took another, his inswinging delivery too much for the sorry number 3 who played on.
The other opener was making steady progress, however, and retired on 25 not out. His new partner at the crease was also looking good, until he took on Dave’s arm, knowing he hasn’t hit the stumps since 1998, but was out of luck as his throw found the sticks and he was a country mile out of his ground.
Duncan McAllister, the arch enemy of Fishers, came to the crease and charged down the wicket at Boxer’s first ball to him. Using his bonce, for once, Boxer fired in a yorker second ball which trapped Big Dunc in his crease and got him plumb LBW.
Aaron then came on and bowled a good spell – despite his depression from Eveton’s 7-0 hammering the previous evening – taking 2 wickets, with catches from Matt and Dave. As the score began to increase, Si managed to take one final wicket, with a tasty quicker ball, and the oppo finished on 122 – a very decent score and one that looked hard to catch.
Matt and Chris were untrusted with opening the innings for Fishers, and made a solid start before Chris was bowled in the 5th over for 7. Pie-boy Bungle waddled to the crease, took guard and began swinging (not in the way Sandsy does) as only Bungle can. A 4 set the tone for his innings, and he eventually retired on an impressive and hugely important 28. Simon was out cheaply (again!) but Andy R steadied the innings again with a vital quickfire 10 before being bolwed. Matt holed out for 8, leaving Dave and Aaron at the wicket, with the score on 80ish with 5 overs remaining. Dave hit out from the start and managed to rack up 36 – and run Aaron out in the process (sorry mate) – before retiring to leave Jules and Malcolm to knock off the winning 11 runs from the final couple of overs, which they accomplished thanks to some nice flicks and a cracking square cut 4 from Big Malc.
A cracking win then, with everybody digging deep to pull it out of the bag.

Man of the match – Andy Reeves, for his excellent bowling that got us off to a good start.
Injury of the match: Three-way tie between Chris’s pulled groin, Malcolm’s pulled hamstring and Andy Harris’s pulled sphincter as a result of talking out of his lardy arse too much.
